Label Check & Compliance

One third of beverage producers face label-related delays or rejections when trying to enter new markets or launch new products.

Avoid costly mistakes with Meron’s Label Compliance Service. Whether you are launching a new product or selling into new markets, we validate your label fast as part of a full analysis or special service.

Go Beyond Legal Requirements

Avoid delays and save money. Our Label Compliance Service checks that your labels follow all legal rules: like required wording, icons (e.g. pregnancy warning, recycling), font size, and language. We make sure your drink is ready for any market. Not sure if your label is compliant? We can help.

What is Label Compliance Service and why is it necessary?
L
K

A label & compliance check ensures that your product label meets all legal requirements in the country you plan to sell. For the EU, this includes mandatory mentions, language requirements, and formatting rules. Without compliance, customs or retailers may delay or reject your products.

What happens if my label isn't compliant with regulations?

L
K

Non-compliance can lead to border rejections, fines, relabeling costs, and shipment delays. In worst-case scenarios, your entire production could be denied entry or pulled from shelves.

Are there different label rules for wines, spirits, and liqueurs?

L
K

Yes. Each category has unique mandatory mentions and specific regulations under the law. Wines require details on grape origin, spirits need defined production categories, and liqueurs may have sugar content specifications, for example.

What are the mandatory label elements for wine in the EU?

L
K

Wine labels must include product category (e.g., Table Wine, Sparkling, Fortified), alcohol content, origin (PDO/PGI if applicable), producer details, allergens (e.g., sulfites), net volume, lot number, and the new nutritional and ingredient declarations.

Do producers need to list ingredients on a wine label?

L
K

Yes. In the EU, since December 2023, wines must include an ingredient list and nutrition declaration, either on the label or through a digital link like a QR code (with limited information allowed off-label).

What does a spirits label need to show?

L
K

For spirits, the label must include the product category (e.g., rum, gin), alcohol strength (% ABV), net volume, producer or bottler details, allergens if any, lot number, and in some cases, geographic indication.

Are there specific rules for liqueur labels?

L
K

Liqueurs must declare alcohol content, product name, sugar content (especially for cream or fruit-based liqueurs), allergens, and, in many cases, colorants and flavorings. A nutrition declaration is required for some formats.

Can I use QR codes to meet label requirements?

L
K

Yes, in the European Union, for wines and aromatized wines, rules allow off-label declarations (ingredients and nutrition) through electronic means like QR codes, but allergens must still be shown on the label.

How fast can Meron validate a label?

L
K

For most label checks, we offer rapid feedback within 2 working days. Full assessments, including lab analysis, may take slightly longer, depending on product complexity, depth of requests, and sample size.

Reflections: Nostalgia

Perswijn

Hubrecht Duijker in conversation with
Ronald de Groot: I visited Meron, a company that tests wines for many supermarkets. Almost all flawed aromas in wine are now mercilessly detected by machines. Thankfully, machines still can’t determine if a wine is “enjoyable,” but perhaps that day is coming.
