PRODUCT SPECS

IN 2001 MERON BCL developed the product specification (SPEC) for her customers.
Compared to the traditional NORM based method, a SPEC doesn't deal with norm based recommended values and guidelines per analysis parameter and product groups.
Instead it takes into account the characteristics of each individual wine. These characteristics are unique for the country, region and year of production of the wine. A SPEC gets determined based on commitment between all involved parties: customer, importer/exporter/producer and MERON BCL.

The procedure for determining a SPEC is as follows:

1.  The sample (final product) of a new to be released
wine or the new vintage of an existing wine is brought
to MERON BCL for analysis.

2.  After analysis MERON BCL defines a chemical
specification of the wine based on her extensive database
and based on the specific characteristics set of the
analysed sample.

3.  The customer sends the SPEC to her producer or
supplier by email through MERON BCL's IWIS information system. The supplier then has the possibility to give
feedback on the SPEC.

4.  After having processed the comments and having 
received approval by parties involved, the SPEC is
awarded the 'final' definitive status by MERON BCL.

5.  The wine is monitored on a frequent basis by
MERON BCL to determine if it still meets the SPEC

By means of this SPEC procedure the customer and her supplier have a binding agreement concerning the quality of the product. During later analysis after definitive shipping and at random intervals the SPEC provides detailed chemical and organoleptic information to which the wine must comply.
